Jamie has worked as a medical, psychiatric, school, and consultant social worker for over 44 years. He has worked with newborns, children, adolescents, adults, and elderly clients and families in public and private schools, hospitals, and private practices. His current special interest in private practice is working with individuals who have a history of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and who are experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety. He has extensive experience working with war veterans, first responders, correctional officers, victims of crime, and children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced emotional, physical or sexual abuse or situations such as industrial accidents during which individuals were exposed to traumatic events in unforeseen life circumstances.
Jamie provides advocacy whereby his clients and their parents develop self advocacy skills. Such social justice work includes eligibility for 504 and special education under IDEA in public schools, Title IX access to services post sexual assault in high school and university settings, and DCF and Juvenile/Adult Probation Departments matters involving Connecticut Superior and Probate Courts.
Jamie has developed and implemented programs for children and adolescents designated as seriously emotionally disturbed in private and public schools and psychiatric hospitals. Within those programs, he trained and supervised staff and graduate/undergraduate students as a field education instructor through the UCONN School of Social Work and Eastern Connecticut State University Department of Psychology.
The treatment methods offered to clients include Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Family System, Relational, Anger Management, Addictions/Recovery, and Play Therapies.
